Frequently Asked Questions
In this section, you can find the answers to the questions you may have about using Visa Travellers Cheques. If you require more detailed information, please contact us
Do Travellers Cheques expire?
Travellers Cheques do not expire - they are valid forever! You can save any unused Travellers Cheques for future trips.
How do I cash my Travellers Cheques?
Just ask at the location where you wish to exchange them. Please click here to search for an encashment location. You should only countersign the Cheques in front of the acceptor. You will need to take identification such as a passport or driving licence, and be prepared to show your copy of the Puchase Agreement Form.
When should I complete the date on each Travellers Cheque?
Only when you wish to use it, the same as if you were writing a personal Cheque
Do I have to pay a fee to cash Travellers Cheques?
Some locations may charge a fee. Commission charges for encashing Travellers Cheques are set by the accepting location and are outside of the control of Travelex. In the USA we advise you to use them as cash in shops, hotels or restaurants in payment for goods or services.
What should I do if I visit an encashment location, but they won't accept my Cheques?
Please contact us or ask the merchant to, using the toll-free phone numbers. We will help straight away.
Can I accept Travellers Cheques from another person?
Yes, but with caution. You must watch them countersign the Cheque, check you are happy that the signatures match. Travelex recommends that you request some form of identification (for example passport, driver's licence, ID Card) and write the identification number and type of ID on the back of the cheque. Ensure you are happy with all of the security features on the Cheque (please click on the Visa link to the view the relevant cheque Security Features). You should then deposit the Cheques for payment in your bank account, as you would any other Cheque.
Are there terms and conditions that I need to follow when I have purchased Travellers Cheques?
Yes, please click here to read the Purchase, Claim and Refund Conditions. You can also find them inside the cover of the wallet provided with your Travellers Cheques. Please read these carefully and follow them at all times.
What should I do if my Travellers Cheques are lost or stolen?
You should contact us immediately. Our Worldwide Refund Service can help you straight away - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Please see the lost and stolen Travellers Cheques section for further help
